Laboratories enrolled in the CDC ELITE program
Every laboratory below appears on the CDC ELITE public roster, which means it is enrolled in the only national proficiency program for recovering Legionella from environmental samples. What that does and does not tell you is set out first, because the distinction decides whether the list is useful to you.
Enrolment is not accreditation
ELITE, the Environmental Legionella Isolation Techniques Evaluation program, sends enrolled laboratories blind panels twice a year and scores whether they recover what the panel contains. It measures one thing, well: whether the bench can find Legionella when Legionella is there.
It is not a license and it is not an accreditation. Accreditation is a separate assessment of the laboratory's quality system, held under ISO/IEC 17025 or a state program such as New York's ELAP, and a laboratory can hold either one without the other. A supplier that tells you ELITE enrolment makes a laboratory accredited is either confused or hoping you are, and that sentence is worth testing them on.
The public roster, by state
15 laboratories across 13 states, captured from the CDC roster on 16 September 2026. Details change: confirm enrolment with the laboratory, or against the CDC list itself, before you rely on it.

Listed as a public record, without ranking, rating or payment. No laboratory on this page has paid to appear and none can pay to be placed higher, because there is no higher: the order is alphabetical by state. This site sells no analysis and takes no commission on any, which is the only reason the list can say what it says.
If no laboratory near you is listed
Distance matters less than you would expect, and less than most operators assume. Samples travel to the bench routinely under chain of custody, and the constraint that actually binds is the holding time between collection and the start of culture, not the miles. A laboratory two states away that receives the cooler the next morning is a better answer than a nearer one that cannot start promptly.
Two further routes are worth knowing. Several states publish their own list of laboratories certified for Legionella, which is a different and sometimes longer list than this one. And most laboratories that run the analysis will name the sampling firms they receive work from, which is usually the quickest way to find someone who will attend the building.
What the sample itself has to get right, before any of this matters, is on sampling and laboratory analysis, and the obligation the sampling sits inside is on water management programs.
Describe the building and we will pass it to laboratories that cover it
One short form. It goes to independent laboratory and environmental service providers working with buildings of that type, and they contact you directly. Nothing is sampled or analyzed by this site.
